Cancer Rehabilitation
Physical therapists can assist with management of the musculoskeletal, neuromuscular, integumentary and cardiopulmonary rehabilitative needs of patients resulting from the treatment of active cancer disease. Recent research has demonstrated that patients who remain physically active while they are undergoing treatment have fewer negative side effects during radiation therapy and chemotherapy. Physical therapy goals for patients dealing with cancer include:
- Improving Range of Motion After Surgery
- Decreasing Pain
- Generalized Strengthening
- Core Strengthening
- Improving Cardiovascular Function
- Lymphedema Education
If you are currently undergoing treatment for cancer and are experiencing pain, fatigue, decreased endurance or weakness, ask your oncologist if a referral to a physical therapist is appropriate.
